21st Century Bass

Future Garage is a newer style of UK Garage which originally developed as a result of some Dubstep producers reacting against the prevalent trends in that genre. These producers made music which was far closer to the 2-Step and UK Garage of the late 90s and early 00s than that of their contemporaries, deliberately eschewing the heavy wobble bass commonplace in dubstep. The other distinguishing feature of Future Garage is that it is much more accessible. The resulting sound is often quite minimalistic, with skittery, broken rhythms and bright, clean melodies.

"Future Garage" is a catchall term for producers/DJs, mostly associated with the Dubstep scene, creating new sounds with the UK Garage template. Other names such as Psychedelic Garage and Detroit 2step were also used on forums to described these artists, but Future Garage has recently stuck and has appeared on flyers, descriptions on press releases and some labels such as L2S Recordings and Night Audio have claimed the name for artists on their rosters.

Stylistically many artists use heavily over shuffled 2step beats, 8 bit computer game samples, warped vocals - heavily pitchshifted and processed via sidechaining...
